Tanzania: Kisarawe Village Forest and Environment Project (2013 – 2015)

Mission:

The project aimed to support villagers in the Kisarawe region to learn basic information about forestry activities in order to preserve their environment and improve their living conditions.

The project also addressed issues of private land ownership and the situation in the region.

Objectives:

The overall objective of the project was to improve the condition of forests primarily in the project villages, but also more broadly in the Kisarawe region, and to support communities to become stronger in forest management and environmental protection.

The aim was also to improve the economic status of village farmers. The project expanded forest plantations while reducing the pressure on the remaining natural forests.

An additional objective was to support the NGO DeCo to be active and knowledgeable in forest matters and the promotion of forestry at the village level.

Implementation:

The Toivala Foundation had the NGO DeCo (Development Concern) as a local partner, which implemented the project activities in accordance with the jointly agreed objectives. DeCo reported on the results.

During the project, the Toivala Foundation sent volunteers to the Kisarawe area for field work.
